Are you illegible?

You are illegible to apply for an new PR card if:

Your card is lost, stolen or destroy
You didn’t receive your card within 180 days of immigrating to Canada
You need to update your card ex. changing you legal name, citizenship status etc.

Why do you need a valid PR card? You need your PR card to board flight, train, bus or boat returning to Canada.

As a permanent resident you get most social benefits that Canadian citizens receive, including health care coverage, live, work or study anywhere in Canada, apply for Canadian citizenship and you are protected under Canadian law and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
